Brisbane back-rower Matt Gillett is due to make his return from serious injury in Saturday's NRL trial match against Gold Coast.

The 30-year-old has been sidelined since early last year after fracturing his neck in Brisbane's opening round fixture.

Gillett played another four matches before the injury was diagnosed.

The discovery of the neck fracture sidelined Gillett for the remainder of the campaign, during which he underwent a shoulder reconstruction as well.

After losing 10kg, Gillett has bulked up before the 2019 campaign with a diet of Weet-Bix with banana and honey, or occasionally topped with Milo, to regain his playing weight.

Broncos head of performance Paul Devlin confirmed the Queensland and Australia is expected to make his return against the Titans at CBUS Super Stadium.

"Matt's worked really hard. Obviously he's had a challenging period there with his injury," Devlin said.

"A player who is so robust and resilient on the field it's been a challenge for him being stuck in rehab so long but he's had an excellent attitude.

"We're really excited about seeing him back out there on the field competing."

Gillett's return comes after Jaydn Su'A made a successful return from a broken ankle to feature in last Saturday's trial win over the Wynnum Manly Seagulls.

Devlin said a hamstring strain to star forward Tevita Pangai Junior didn't appear to be serious and the 23-year-old could yet feature against the Titans if he comes through training this week without complications.
