Broncos 'under pressure' to keep Moga

Brisbane boss Paul White admits the NRL club is under pressure to retain Tautau Moga after the strike centre was linked to cashed-up Newcastle.

The looming arrival of Jack Bird at Brisbane is expected to force centre Tautau Moga to jump ship to Newcastle.

And Broncos boss Paul White admits salary cap constraints look set to cost the NRL club more than just Moga.

The 23-year-old Moga is set to sign a multi-year Knights deal after White admitted they would be "under pressure" to keep the Samoan international.

Impressive bench forward Herman Ese'ese will also reportedly link with Newcastle next year.

"Nothing has been finalised but we will be under pressure to keep Tautau," White said on Monday.

"The reason is we are operating on a salary cap that is yet to be determined.

"We are receiving strong guidance from the NRL and are adhering to that.

"We will have limitations to what we can offer a player like that but other clubs won't have the limitation.

"It's fair to say there will probably be some player movement over the next few weeks."

NSW Origin star Bird is set to take Moga's starting centre spot when he arrives on a four-year deal in 2018.

Moga had finally found his feet at the Broncos since arriving this season after injury-marred stints at Sydney Roosters (2012-13) and North Queensland (2014-16), overcoming three knee reconstructions.

He is now set to jump at a chance to nab a cashed-up Knights offer from 2018.

Meanwhile, White believed injured skipper Darius Boyd would use his time on the sidelines to fast-track contract talks and expected an announcement "in the next month or so".

Broncos fullback Boyd is currently sidelined with a broken thumb suffered in Queensland's State of Origin game two win.

"Someone like Darius - who has high value in the market, he is captain of our club - we need to make sure that we allow the time and process to get the job done right," White said of Boyd contract talks.

"(But) Darius is in a really comfortable position.

"I speak regularly to him and his manager and we are confident we will have that resolved in the next month or so."
