Broncos wary of complacency in derby

Brisbane's Sam Thaiday says complacency is the biggest threat ahead of their NRL derby against an injury plagued Gold Coast.

Brisbane veteran Sam Thaiday says the Broncos will need to take a long hard look at themselves if they take victory for granted against an injury-ravaged Gold Coast.

The in-form Broncos face their south-east Queensland rivals at Suncorp Stadium on Friday with Titans coach Neil Henry unable to call on services of 11 of his top line players who are sidelined through injury.

Representative stars Jarryd Hayne, Kevin Proctor and Chris McQueen are among those unavailable but the Titans will be boosted by the expected return of English backrower Joe Greenwood from concussion.

Wayne Bennett's side were outstanding in last week's 32-8 win over the Sydney Roosters and are heavy favourites to inflict a sixth defeat in seven games on Henry's men, who sit second-last on the ladder.

Thaiday insists there will be no complacency from the Broncos but said sympathy for the Titans plight is in short supply at Red Hill.

"It's tough but rugby league is a bit of a rollercoaster ride, sometimes you have to ride those lows," he said.

"We can't be complacent, we don't know who is going to play but whatever Titans team plays us it is always a great rivalry.

"They will be ready to play and we will be our own worst critics if we don't show up."

Winger Anthony Don said for the Titans to have any chance of causing a shock they need to be stronger than they were in last week's heavy loss to Canberra.

"We need to muscle up in the middle and try and stop their momentum," Don said.

"They're playing good footy and they have a good win on Thursday night so it will be a really tough game."
