Broncos women brace for Ruan Sims' return

Brisbane coach Paul Dyer hopes Ruan Sims will be rusty on her NRL Women's Premiership debut for Sydney Roosters.

Try telling Brisbane prop Heather Ballinger that Sydney Roosters battering ram Ruan Sims will be underdone in their NRL Women's Premiership second round clash on Friday.

The stage is set for a brutal forward battle at Allianz Stadium with Jillaroos skipper Sims - a 10-year veteran of the national and NSW side - making her Roosters debut after missing the historic opener with a hamstring injury.

Broncos coach Paul Dyer said Sims was a "tough hombre" but sounded like he had his fingers crossed she may be rusty after also missing June's State of Origin clash with a broken nose and thumb.

"Ruan may be a little underdone because she hasn't played a lot of footy in the last few months - fitness might be a small issue for her," he said.

But Broncos front-rower Ballinger knows exactly what to expect from the uncompromising 36-year-old.

"I remember a (Jillaroos) training camp and it was supposed to be two-handed touch and she smacked me," Ballinger said.

"I went flying backwards. She is very competitive.

"It will be like an Origin game. It is going to hurt."

Queensland and Australian front-rower Ballinger will pack down with retired Test star Steph Hancock against Sims and fellow Jillaroos prop Elianna Walton in a showdown that may decide the clash.

Brisbane are full of confidence after thrashing St George Illawarra 30-4 in their opener.

But Dyer was wary of early title favourites the Roosters after they suffered a shock 10-4 defeat to the Warriors.

"I think conditions were a bit wet (for Roosters) but they have a wonderful side. Our girls are aware of that," he said.

Meanwhile, NSW centre Jess Sergis - partner of NRL young gun Zac Lomax - looks set to be cleared by the Dragons for Saturday's ANZ Stadium clash against the Warriors after being concussed last round.
