Neil Broom is in line for a Test cricket debut after being named to replace an injured Ross Taylor in the New Zealand team.

Taylor suffered a low grade tear to his right calf while batting against South Africa in Dunedin on Thursday.

He has been ruled out of the second Test, starting in Wellington on Thursday, but may be fit for the third.

Broom, 33, who has a first class average of 39.28, has played 30 one-day internationals for New Zealand.

Meanwhile, Matt Henry will join the squad in Wellington as the Kiwis monitor bowler Trent Boult's sore upper leg.

New Zealand Cricket says it was always the plan for Henry to join the team in Wellington.
