Brother, sister charged over $4m drug bust

South Australian police are investigating links to bikie gangs after a brother and sister were charged over a $4 million drug bust in Adelaide.

A brother and sister have been charged with drug trafficking after ice and cocaine valued at about $4 million was allegedly found inside two South Australian homes.

The 44-year-old man and 55-year-old woman were arrested after police allegedly found 3.3 kilograms of ice, 1.1kg of cocaine and more than $65,000 in cash in two houses in Adelaide's south.

The man was pulled over on Thursday night before the houses in North Plympton and Parkside were searched.

Police said the pair had been under investigation for some time and they were checking for links to outlaw bikie gangs.

"The people were known to us," Detective Superintendent Graham Goodwin told reporters in Adelaide on Friday.

"We were targeting that group."

Det Supt Goodwin said the pair were believed to be organised criminals, not low-level dealers.

"Street dealers don't carry $4 million worth of drugs," he said.

"These are the people who make a lot of money from peddling these harmful substances within the community."

The brother and sister were charged with commercial drug trafficking and were remanded in custody.

Det Supt Goodwin said local officers will work with federal police to determine where the drugs were manufactured.

"This stuff (can come) in from overseas, it's (also) manufactured locally - it's a huge money-making industry," he said.

The drug bust comes a day after three men were found guilty of importing $160 million worth of cocaine into Queensland.
