Brough should not be minister again: Labor

Federal Labor is pleased Mal Brough isn't receiving his ministerial salary after stepping down, but says he should never be returned to the front bench.

Federal Labor never wants to see Mal Brough return to the front bench even if nothing comes from a police investigation into his role in the Peter Slipper affair.

Shadow attorney-general Mark Dreyfus welcomed reports on Wednesday Mr Brough had requested a pay cut and a backbench office after standing down as special minister of state.

"Yes, it's appropriate that Mr Brough no longer accept that ministerial salary but it's also appropriate that he never again appear in the Turnbull ministry," Mr Dreyfus told ABC radio.
