Silver Ferns stalwart Jodi Brown is leaving international netball on a high.
The 34-year-old confirmed her retirement a day after New Zealand's 58-47 win over Australia in the fourth Test at Perth, in which she was named most valuable player.
Brown says the time is right to leave the international arena, having played 61 Tests since making her debut during the New Zealand's triumphant campaign at the 2003 world championships in Jamaica.
She also won silver medals at the 2007 and 2015 World Cups, and at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Brown will play for the Pulse in next year's trans-Tasman league but is keen to spend more time with her young family.
"It has been an enormous privilege to be part of such an incredible team beginning my career as the junior in the 2003 World Cup team and now ending it as part of an outstanding Silver Ferns senior leadership group," Brown said.
"I am excited about the young talent coming into the team and I know the future is looking bright."
New Zealand ended a mixed 2015 in style with a dominant performance in Perth, sending departing coach Waimarama Taumaunu out on a pleasing note despite their failure to win the Constellation Cup.
They also fell narrowly short against Australia in the World Cup final in August at the conclusion of a compelling campaign.
Others in the New Zealand team potentially nearing the end of their playing careers are 38-year-old defender Leana de Bruin and two centurions - captain Casey Kopua and centre Laura Langman.
Goal shoot Bailey Mes says the subject of player retirement never entered the conversation this week.
"We tried not to put too much emphasis on it. It was a special occasion but we just had a job to do and we knew it would be really really tough," she said.
"It's something that comes later. We just needed to focus on the game. I'm just so proud of the way that we fought through and kept the foot down."
