Brumbies door open for Cooper: Powell

While Reds outcast Quade Cooper has so far shunned their offer, Brumbies halfback Joe Powell said the ex-Wallabies playmaker would strengthen their side.

Queensland Reds discard Quade Cooper would be welcome at the Brumbies, according to halfback Joe Powell.

The Brumbies and Melbourne Rebels have both approached the exiled Reds playmaker about joining their Super Rugby clubs, but Cooper said he wanted to remain at home in Brisbane and try to force his way back into the Queensland side.

Reds coach Brad Thorn told Cooper at the start of the season there was no place for him in their line-up or at training, however he remains on their payroll while playing Brisbane club rugby.

Despite the advances of Brumbies coach Dan McKellar, who confirmed on Tuesday his interest, Cooper appears to be digging his heels in with a recent post on Twitter.

"Work hard for what you want.. even when it appears there is no way, there is always a way .. persist and be patient.. grateful to be representing @SouthsRugby on this journey back to the Reds & Wallabies.. I will not give up," Cooper tweeted on Monday night.

Speaking ahead of the Brumbies clash with the Rebels on Saturday in Canberra, Powell said if Cooper changed his mind, he would be a strong addition for the team.

"He's a guy with a lot of experience and he would teach the younger guys a lot of things," Powell said.

"We'd be happy to have him if he was to come."

Powell, who has spent time with Cooper in the Wallabies, believed that such is Cooper's talent he couldn't be content playing club rugby,

"He'd love to be playing footy at the higher level as well," he said.

"If we could get him down to Canberra - I'm not sure he would like the weather too much - but it would be good to see him playing at a higher level again."
