Sydney superstar Buddy Franklin has met with club officials and is likey to return to pre-season training next month.

Franklin withdrew from the Swans' finals campaign after it emerged he was dealing with ongoing mental health issues.

Coach John Longmire said Wednesday's meeting covered the challenges Franklin had faced which caused his season to end prematurely.

"It was about last season in general and also about how we move forward," Longmire told NewsCorp Australia.

"He'll continue to receive support from professionals that know how to deal with it better than I do.

"And they're indicating he will be back for pre-season training and that his support will be ongoing.

Longmire said Franklin was pleased to return to the club.

"He's been through a challenging time but he feels good and looks healthy," Longmire said.

"Primarily he's looking forward to getting back into training."

Franklin is not expected to attend the club's best and fairest dinner on Friday night.
