Sydney's injury woes have gone from bad to worse after Lance Franklin tweaked his hamstring.

Franklin was a late withdrawal from Saturday night's derby at the SCG, robbing the marquee match of its marquee man.

The superstar joins former captains Kieren Jack and Jarrad McVeigh, veteran defenders Heath Grundy and Nick Smith, ruckman Sam Naismith and former Geelong forward Daniel Menzel on the sidelines for the Swans.

Sydney insist Franklin's hamstring injury is minor.

"He's pulled up a little bit sore Friday," Swans assistant coach John Blakey told the club website.

"We've had it checked it out obviously and scanned, and unfortunately he's got a slight hamstring.

"So we're expecting he might miss one or two weeks It's not a major hamstring tear."

Franklin underwent off-season groin surgery.

The 32-year-old was passed fit for round one but the setback ruined his hopes of completing a full pre-season.

The four-time Coleman medallist's latest niggle comes after he was badly restricted by a heel injury in 2018.

The gun forward still kicked 57.43 last year but only played 19 games - and struggled to train between matches.

Franklin booted four goals against Richmond last week, climbing above Matthew Lloyd into outright seventh on the all-time VFL/AFL goalkicking list.

It was Frankiin's most impressive showing of the year.

"He's been able to run and train and get himself going, so he is moving quite well at the moment," Swans coach John Longmire said after his side's loss to the Tigers.
