Budget a 'hoax' for Qld: deputy premier

The Qld government says the federal budget is a hoax full of recycled spending promises and tax cuts from the Never Never.

The federal budget is a hoax for Queensland and much of the $5.2 billion for infrastructure projects is old money, the state's treasurer says.

The motoring group RACQ has also savaged what it called a "smoke and mirrors" budget, saying road and rail spending is actually $400 million down on last year.

Treasurer Jackie Trad says Scott Morrison's pre-election budget is all show and no substance, with Queenslanders left to wait for years for infrastructure funding and promised tax cuts.

"The M1, the Bruce Highway - much of this money we can't count on for another five years," the deputy premier told reporters on Wednesday.

"If we want to see these congestion busting projects get off the ground then it has to happen on the state government's credit card. That's why I say this budget is a hoax for Queensland."

Ms Trad said much of the $5.2 billion promised for road and rail projects in Queensland had already been announced, and the total spend was about the same a single $5 billion rail project funded for Melbourne.

Meanwhile, the budget axed federal funding for indigenous housing in remote parts of Queensland while handing the Northern Territory half a billion dollars for the same purpose, she said.

And Mr Morrison's seven-year tax relief plan meant nothing, Ms Trad said.

"It's a promise from the Never Never."

The RACQ said Queensland had been fleeced out of hundreds of millions of dollars in road and rail investment.

"It's actually down for road and rail projects about $400 million from last year," RACQ's head of public policy Rebecca Michael has told ABC radio.

While spending on projects such as the Bruce Highway and M1 upgrades were welcome, the money was needed right now, not down the track, she said.

The Liberal National Party said there was a huge amount in the budget for Queensland and called state Labor's reaction to it "unhinged".

"(The) $5.2 billion in infrastructure projects for Queensland is second only to Victoria and three times more than what NSW is receiving," Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington said in a statement.

"It shows (Premier) Annastacia Palaszczuk's only mission is to serve Bill Shorten and not Queensland."
