Budget to benefit rich, business: poll

Voters believe the federal budget to be delivered on April 2 will be of most benefit to the wealth and business.

Businesses and the rich would be the biggest winners from the federal budget, a new poll shows.

The latest Essential poll found 58 per cent of voters believed the budget - to be delivered on April 2 - would be good or very good for the wealthy.

As well, 50 per cent noted it would be good for business, while only 19 per cent said it would be good for them personally.

Voters were evenly split over whether it would be good, neutral or bad for families.

Two-thirds said health care spending should be increased, while 59 per cent called for more funding for education and age pensions.

In terms of budget savings, 46 per cent of voters nominated less support for big corporations and 49 per cent advocated a drop in foreign aid.

The poll also gave Labor a 52-48 lead over the coalition, down one point from the previous fortnight.
