The federal budget is unfair to low-income families, young people and the unemployed, the nation's welfare lobby laments.

Australian Council of Social Services chief Cassandra Goldie says the government has done nothing to sustainably raise more revenue while locking in the harsh cuts from the previous budget.

"It's really unfair - the government has withdrawn the compensation for social security recipients but left in the tax cuts."
