Controversial Auburn deputy mayor Salim Mehajer is facing yet another legal battle - this time with a small business owner in Sydney.

Director of marble supply company Mormonyx Stone, Yashar Shokrgozar, has accused Mr Mehajer of failing to pay for the installation of an onyx staircase in the 29-year-old's western Sydney home.

Mr Shokrgozar, who's filed a civil case against the property developer, claims he was hired to install the two-storey spiral staircase last year and the outstanding debt is yet to be paid.

Mr Mehajer didn't appear at Newtown Local Court to hear the case on Wednesday morning and was instead represented by his lawyer.

Negotiations continued in a closed court room for just over half an hour before the meeting was adjourned to next month.

It's expected the pair will make a settlement at their next meeting.

Mr Shokrgozar said he is proud of the staircase which recently featured in the video clip of US rapper Bow Wow.

"We did an immaculate job for him," he said.

Mr Shokrgozar would not disclose how much was owed for the installation because the pair had agreed to keep it confidential.

Mr Mehajer claims the contract for the staircase installation was made "between a subcontractor and Marmonyx".

"Subcontractor has been paid in full by my company. Now this remains a matter between subcontractor and Marmonyx," Mr Mehajer said in a statement to AAP on Tuesday.

It's yet another legal headache for the councillor who made headlines for his show-stopping August wedding and was in September re-elected despite concerns about a potential conflict between his position on the council and his property interests.

In his latest court battle, Mr Mehajer is being sued by the liquidator of one of his companies for allegedly breaching their directors' duties.

He is also defending a string of alleged traffic offences, including driving an unregistered Ferrari without a licence.

He's also expected to give evidence in the District Court in November in a civil case brought by two women who were injured when he lost control of his high-speed car in 2012.

Mr Mehajer also faced Burwood Local court two weeks ago, on charges of intimidation for allegedly making threats against the father of a Lindt Cafe siege survivor.
