Bulldogs barking for marriage equality

AFL club Western Bulldogs are the latest sporting organisation to lend their support to marriage equality.

Reigning AFL premiers the Western Bulldogs have joined the marriage equality campaign, asking their 47,704 members to vote yes in this month's marriage law postal survey.

The club joins the governing bodies of cricket, rugby league and soccer as high-profile sporting supporters of same-sex marriage.

The Bulldogs have released a video urging fans to cast their ballots in favour of changing the law in the non-compulsory national vote.

"We encourage all Western Bulldogs fans to stand with us in our support on marriage equality because love is love," Wood said.

Bulldogs stars Marcus Bontempelli and Katie Brennan also feature in the video.

"Marriage equality won't make a difference to the vast majority of Australians but it will make a profound difference to the status and dignity of many," Bontempelli said.

"Enabling committed couples to be married, no matter who they are and who they love, will contribute to a more inclusive Australia," Brennan added.

Olympic legend Ian Thorpe has added his voice to the yes campaign, appearing in advertisements.

Code-swapping star Israel Folau is the highest profile current athlete to announce his support for the no campaign this week on Twitter.
