Bulldogs trio could play in big AFL clash

While the Western Bulldogs have lost Marcus Adams to a long-term injury, they hope to regain Tom Boyd, Dale Morris and Clay Smith.

The Western Bulldogs could regain three premiership players for Sunday's big AFL clash with Melbourne.

Ruck-forward Tom Boyd, veteran defender Dale Morris and utility Clay Smith are all in line for recalls if they can prove their fitness.

Boyd was ruled out of Thursday's loss to Sydney with a back spasm, while Morris is recovering from the ankle injury he suffered in the round-10 win over St Kilda.

"These injuries can notoriously take longer to settle than a normal ankle injury," Bulldogs physiotherapist Chris Bell said of Morris' syndesmosis injury.

But Bell added that Morris is a chance to return, depending on this Thursday's training session.

Smith has not played since round nine and is returning from a calf muscle injury.

Captain Bob Murphy is also on track to return in the next two to three weeks after a hamstring injury and knee surgery.

On Saturday, it emerged that defender Marcus Adams will be out of action for up to two months because of a foot injury.

Meanwhile, North Melbourne defender Ed Vickers-Willis continues to suffer rotten injury luck.

A knee injury could also put him out of action for two months.

Shoulder injuries stalled Vickers-Willis' career after he was drafted in 2014, but he had played every game since his senior debut in round five.

Vickers-Willis will be in a brace for the next three weeks because of posterior cruciate ligament damage.
