A Travis Trice bucket in the dying seconds has given Brisbane a thrilling 75-74 win over Cairns in a Queensland NBL derby.

The seesawing contest came down to a tense final minute on Thursday night as Trice calmly deposited the winning points to beat his former side with less than 10 seconds to go.

Fellow Bullet Perrin Buford scored a double-double (17 points, 12 rebounds) in a player-of-the-game performance, which included a crucial block on Dayshon Smith in the final moments at the Cairns Convention Centre.

Jerry Evans Jr's 18 points made him the highest scorer for the hosts.

Mitch McCarron racked up his double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds) for the Taipans despite a temporary absence due to an injury scare in the third quarter.
