Brisbane have released import Stephen Holt but are yet to name a replacement guard ahead of the NBL season's resumption.

The Bullets have confirmed they have granted Holt a release from the rest of his contract during the NBL's break for the FIBA international window to allow him to pursue an opportunity in Europe.

However, they are yet to nail down a full-time roster replacement ahead of fourth-placed Brisbane's home clash on Saturday with defending champions Melbourne United.

Bullets general manager Richard Clarke said they hoped to receive NBL clearance to use Jeremy Kendle as a short-term fix with Holt's full-time replacement set to be confirmed in the next 24 hours.

"We had been looking at bringing an additional guard into the group, originally with the intention of Stephen remaining in the roster and the new player adding to the depth in the guard rotation," Clarke said.

"Stephen was concerned about the impact this would have on his role, and his agent requested a release as he had another opportunity he could immediately take up.

"We granted that release, and that has given us additional salary-cap space for the replacement guard and allowed us to look at a different level of player than we were originally.

"It means that we will likely not have that player here for the games against Melbourne United this weekend but we are fortunate in having a player of Jeremy's quality available to join the roster.

"Jeremy has been training with the group all season, he knows our systems and has NBL experience so will be able to step in straight away."
