Bulls close in on Shield cricket win

Tasmania are on the ropes in their Sheffield Shield cricket clash against Queensland in Brisbane, leading by just 103 with only three wickets left.

Queensland's unheralded bowling attack have moved their side within touching distance of a vital Sheffield Shield outright cricket win against Tasmania in Brisbane.

The Tigers were struggling at 7-179 a lead of just 103 at stumps on the penultimate day of the pink-ball game at the Gabba on Tuesday.

Wicketkeeper Tom Triffitt (39 not out) was the Tigers topscorer and will resume the innings on Wednesday with Hamish Kingston (1).

Ahead by 76 on first innings after being dismissed for 376 earlier in the day, the Bulls made steady inroads into the visitors batting.

Three batsmen passed 30 and two more got over 20, but wickets fell regularly following a 62 run opening stand between Jordan Silk (33) and Ben Dunk (31)

The Tigers lost 3-18 and fought back to be 5-168, only to lose two more wickets in the last five overs of the final session.

Five Bulls bowlers shared the spoils, with no-one taking more than two wickets.

Pacemen Jack Wildermuth and Mark Steketee each finished the day with 2-28 and were the only men to take more than one wicket.

Spinners Mitchell Swepson and Charlie Hemphrey and quick Peter George all collected a single scalp.

Earlier, Queensland's last three wickets added 33 after they resumed at 7-343 on day three.

Captain and wicketkeeper Chris Hartley fleshed out the tail with an unbeaten 70 off 148 balls.

Andrew Fekete and Beau Webster each took three wickets.
