Queensland has fought back late on day one of their crucial Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania in Brisbane to leave the contest evenly poised.

The home side overcame a batting collapse to reach 255, before striking late in the day with the ball as Tasmania ended on 2-60.

Aside from the opening session, it was very much a case of ball dominated bat as state first-class cricket resumed following a two-month hiatus.

The only batsman to pass 50 was Queensland opener Matt Renshaw, who shared in a 90-run stand for the opening wicket with debutant Lachy Pfeffer (36).

Renshaw was dismissed for 56 of the final ball of the morning session, and the Bulls lost 4-5 soon after the resumption as the top-order disintegrated.

Fortunately for the home side, the tail wagged and quickfire knocks from Michael Neser (29) and Mitch Swepson (25 not out) aided the cause.

The best, however, was saved to last as No.11 Luke Feldman struck an unlikely 47 from 41 balls with an invaluable 72 added for the last wicket.

Neser and Feldman then did the job with the ball removing Tasmanian openers Beau Webster (18) and Alex Doolan (13) amid lengthening shadows at the Gabba.

Victory for either side could be enough to move to the top of the ladder, provided leaders NSW lose to Western Australia in Perth.
