Bulls plan a red-ball test for Finch

Queensland batsman Marnus Labuschagne says wherever Aaron Finch bats in Victoria's line-up, the Test opener will face a big challenge adjusting to the red ball.

Queensland are planning a red-ball test for Aaron Finch regardless of where the Test opener bats in Victoria's line-up for this week's Sheffield Shield clash at the Gabba.

Finch will line up for the Bushrangers in his only chance for some long format cricket before the first Test against India in Adelaide starting on December 6.

Victoria's decision to bat Finch at No.3, rather than replicating the likely Test opening partnership alongside Aaron Harris, has sparked debate in the build-up to the Shield match.

Bulls batsman Marnus Labuschagne however believes Finch's biggest obstacle to getting some quality time in the middle is making the adjustment from short-form cricket after playing in Australia's three Twenty20 internationals against India last week.

"Maybe if you were playing at different wickets but coming to the Gabba, I would assume it's not that easy, especially if you're at the top of the order," Labuschagne said.

"It'll be tough coming back from short-format cricket into a first class game at the Gabba where the ball swings around, nips around a bit.

"He's a high class player so he's going to do it better than most."

Finch is one of six members of Australia's 14-man Test squad who'll compete in the Gabba clash.

Bulls captain Usman Khawaja will get some much-needed match fitness in his first cricket fixture in a month after undergoing knee surgery.

Finch and Harris are two of five Bushrangers in the Test squad, along with Peter Handscomb and pace bowlers Peter Siddle and Chris Tremain.

Labuschange was overlooked despite playing both matches in Australia's two-Test series against Pakistan in the UAE.

The 24-year-old says Khawaja's return is a welcome one for a Bulls team aiming to bounce back after a loss to NSW by 163 runs in Canberra last week.

"His personality just relaxes everyone else in the team which makes us play better," he said.

"Obviously his class at the top of the order is very helpful ... those sort of things really boost our team. It's just really good to have him back."
