Bulls score victory over Vics

A backs to the wall 29-run win over Victoria has helped revive Queensland’s domestic one-day cup campaign.

Queensland have revived a domestic one-day cup campaign that was threatening to derail thanks to a strong performance with the ball which secured a 29-run win over Victoria in Sydney.

The Bulls crashed to a hefty nine-wicket defeat against Tasmania on Monday, and were facing a second successive loss after posting a modest total of just 209 at Blacktown International Sports Park.

However, Queensland turned in a disciplined showing under lights to bowl out Victoria for 180 in the 41st over.

"I thought we were under par (with the bat), and I knew we would have to bowl really well, which we did, but we got out jail," said Queensland skipper Peter Forrest.

"We asked the boys for improvement from the first game, and we got that, but we still have more in us."

Queensland took three early wickets, and Victoria were pushed further onto the back foot after losing 3-1 in the middle of their innings.

Only Matthew Wade's innovate knock of 56 from just 45 deliveries, which included three towering sixes, gave the innings momentum.

James Pattinson chipped in with a well-made 44 late in the innings, but it is always looked a step too far for the Vics after they had been reduced to 7-79.

Forrest says his side now have a platform to build on despite several of their rivals being stacked with international players, following the recent cancellation of Australias tour of Bangladesh.

"It is built into Queenslanders that we love being underdogs and taking on the big teams," he said.

"We know it is a challenging tournament, but it is exciting being able to play against some of the best players in the world."

Australian Test quick Pattinson (4-53) again impressed for Victoria taking his second successive four-wicket haul, with only Forrest (57) and Nathan Reardon (42) making an impression with the bat for the Bulls.

"It was really disappointing, we let that slip to be honest," said Victoria captain Wade.

"We just didn't bat well enough. We lost three for one and you are not going to win many games when you lose wickets in big clumps."
