Cameron Bairstow looks set to join fellow Australian NBA big man Aron Baynes at the Detroit Pistons after being traded from the Chicago Bulls.

The Bulls announced Boomers forward Bairstow had been exchanged for Pistons guard Spencer Dinwiddie on Saturday morning (AEST).

Bairstow was picked by the Bulls in the second round of the 2014 NBA Draft (49th overall), playing 36 games - but only three starts - over two seasons.

If he isn't waived by the Pistons, the 25-year-old could play alongside Baynes next season.

The pair are expected to be named in the Boomers' Rio Olympic squad next month, and could get plenty of game time at the Games if Golden State Warriors star Andrew Bogut is ruled out with his knee injury.
