It could be days before police can talk to a teenage boy who was found burning on a Noosa doorstep.
The 14-year-old remains in intensive care in Brisbane's Lady Cilento Children's Hospital, with burns to 25 per cent of his body.
Police could not confirm reports by the Nine Network that the boy was claiming three other teens deliberately doused him in fuel and set him on fire at Sunrise Beach on Saturday night.
"He's in no condition to speak to police. We don't have his version of events and certainly no one has come forward either," a police spokeswoman told AAP.
Nine also reported that neighbours had seen boys playing with fireworks in the area.
Paramedics have described the confronting scene they faced after the 14-year-old, engulfed in flames, ran to the door of a Sunrise Beach home, crying out for help.
Mark Taylor was the first ambulance officer on the scene and found the boy in an upstairs shower, being doused in water.
"He was in a lot of pain, severe pain, and he was incoherent to a degree. He wasn't making a great deal of sense," Mr Taylor told the Nine network.
He said the boy said nothing about what had caused his burns.
"He was in an enormous amount of pain, and I think he was probably in a state of shock too, given the extent of his injuries."
Mr Taylor said the boy had serious burns to his hands, upper chest, armpits, lower back and shoulders.
"It was quite horrific."
Police have said the boy's burns are not life threatening, and they are waiting to interview the boy but have warned that may not happen until towards the end of the week.
