A half century by Joe Burns has helped Queensland almost chase down Tasmania's first-innings total on day one of their Sheffield Shield contest.
But the competition's second-highest run scorer is sour for failing to do better with the bat.
At Bellerive Oval on Tuesday the hosts were skittled for 150 after Burns won the toss and chose to bowl on a green pitch that produced early wickets.
Later in the day Queensland reached 2-131 in reply with Burns, opening the batting, reaching his 50 from just 51 deliveries before edging a ball to second slip to be dismissed for 61.
"It felt like I was hitting the ball well," Burns said after play.
"It's nice to get 60-odd but extremely disappointing to get out the way I did and at the time I did.
"You've got to be better than that and when you're batting well, make big scores.
"I walk away extremely disappointed but I guess we're in a good position as a team."
Burns trails his Tassie counterpart George Bailey by only a handful of runs on the seasons 'most runs' tally.
After belting his maiden first-class double-ton last round the Tigers' skipper contributed just 13 runs as the home side struggled.
Australian one-day allrounder James Faulkner was out for a second-ball duck in an innings where No.8 Simon Milenko top-scored with 39.
Peter George led the Bulls' all-pace bowling attack, finishing with 3-17 from his 11.2 overs.
Fellow quick Luke Feldman was also valuable delivering 3-55 while Cameron Gannon and Jack Wildermuth each claimed two scalps.
Even though the pitch had flattened considerably by the changeover, the visitors lost the early wicket of Peter Forrest without score, before Burns settled with Marnus Labuschagne for an 89-run partnership.
The latter went on to to make his half century and was unbeaten on 58 at stumps.
Labuschagne will resume on Wednesday with fellow unbeaten batsman Sam Heazlett (10 not out).
