Super League club St Helens have released Australian five-eighth Travis Burns, who will join Brisbane club Wynnum Manly next season.
The 32-year-old former Hull KR co-captain, who is on loan to Leigh, had another year left on his contract with Saints, but has not played for the English club since April and will return with his family to Australia.
Saints paid STG60,000 to Hull KR for Burns two years ago, reuniting him with his former Penrith halfback partner Luke Walsh, but he has made only five appearances this season, mostly out of position at hooker.
"It is the right time to move back home and take up a new challenge," Burns said.
"My wife and kids have followed me around Australia and the UK for several years and now it's time to put them first.
"I'd like to thank the Saints fans for their fantastic support - alongside (chief executive) Mike Rush and (chairman) Eamonn McManus who have supported me and my family.
"Naturally, it is a shame it didn't work out at Saints but that is how rugby league goes sometimes and I am grateful for the opportunity."
Burns played with Manly, North Queensland and the Panthers in the NRL before moving to Super League with Hull KR in 2013.
He made 49 appearances in two seasons for the Robins and also played for the Exiles against England in the summer of 2013 before moving to Saints, for whom he scored 72 points in 34 appearances.
