Burns returns for Bulls in Shield

Test opener Joe Burns will return for Queensland's crunch Sheffield Shield clash with Victoria starting at the Gabba on Saturday.

Centurion Marnus Labuschagne is the unlucky man to make way for Test opener Joe Burns ahead of Queensland's top of the table Sheffield Shield clash with Victoria.

Labuschagne hit 103 and 52 in the Bulls' recent narrow loss to Western Australia in Perth but still got the tap on the shoulder when Burns returned from Test duty.

Burns will play just his third Shield game this season but it looms as Queensland's most important.

The Bulls are 6.96 points behind Victoria on the Shield table with two games left - both at home.

A victory over the Bushrangers will keep alive Queensland's hopes of not only making the final but also hosting it.

Queensland have regrouped after their remarkable 24-run loss to WA earlier this week.

The Bulls were on track to claim a win that would have put them within one point of the table-topping Bushrangers and almost nine points clear of the third-placed NSW.

However, they lost their last eight wickets for 75 despite 102 from Charles Renshaw to just fall short.

The Bulls have also received a shot in the arm thanks to the in-form Burns who returned from Australia's successful tour of New Zealand where he scored a crucial 170 in the second Test.

The Shield clash starts at the Gabba on Saturday.

Bulls squad: Chris Hartley (capt), Joe Burns, Peter George, Sam Heazlett, Charlie Hemphrey, James Hopes, Chris Lynn, Michael Neser, Matthew Renshaw, Mark Steketee, Mitch Swepson, Jack Wildermuth (12th man to be named).
