Joe Burns says teammate Usman Khawaja was only speaking for himself when claimed they were made "scapegoats" for Australia's disastrous tour of Sri Lanka.
The axed Test pair will get one last chance to impress selectors before next week's opener against South Africa in a star-studded Sheffield Shield day-night clash between Queensland and NSW at the Gabba, starting on Tuesday.
With Shaun Marsh (hamstring) injured again and all-rounder Moises Henriques in danger of losing his spot in the team, Burns and Khawaja are considered a strong chance to face the Proteas despite both being dropped for the final Test in Colombo.
But Burns doesn't necessarily agree with Khawaja's assessment that the pair were unfairly dealt with.
"It's all individual, I guess," he told reporters in Brisbane on Monday.
"I can only speak for myself. I wasn't making runs and the team was losing, so that's what happens in professional sport.
"I just have to learn as much as I can from that series, which I certainly have done, and I feel like I'm hitting the ball really well now."
Nine players from the Sri Lanka tour will be in action at the Gabba, including a Test-quality NSW attack spearheaded by Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon.
"They've got a fantastic side and some world-class players. Obviously the Test opening bowlers with a pink ball under lights at the Gabba, it's really exciting," Burns said.
Starc, Hazlewood and fellow Test stars Steve Smith and David Warner didn't play in Sunday's Matador Cup final, in which the Blues recorded a thumping six-wicket victory.
Burns made just 18 before he was run out by debutant Nick Larkin, triggering a costly mid-order collapse for Queensland.
He admits he doesn't know if he's done enough to earn a Test recall, or if selectors might have already made up their minds.
"I haven't really thought about selection. Domestic cricketers have been playing so much over the past few weeks that you don't really get too much time to sit back and think about it too much," he said.
