'Burqini' has been named the 2011 Macquarie Dictionary Word of the Year.
The Islamic swimwear was named Committee's Choice, while the People's Choice award went to 'fracking', as coal seam gas entered the public conscience.
Other favourites for the prize included 'pachinko', 'planking' and 'patchwork economy'.
