Bus driver helps after indecent assault

A 20-year-old man has been charged with indecent assault after he allegedly inappropriately touched a teenager on a bus in Perth.

A bus driver came to the aid of a teenager who was allegedly indecently assaulted by a man on a bus in Perth's north.

Police said a 20-year-old man sat next to the 18-year-old woman and allegedly touched her in an inappropriate manner after striking up a conversation at a bus stop.

The woman, who was too afraid to inform the bus driver, phoned her family but the man ran after her when she got off the bus in Ellenbrook on June 3, police said.

Within minutes, the woman's family phoned police and Transperth security, who told the bus driver.

"The bus driver drove the bus up next to the woman and asked her to get back on the bus," police said in a statement.

"The bus driver then locked the doors, leaving the man standing outside the bus."

The man, who allegedly followed the victim on and off several buses before the incident, fled the scene but police searched a home in Westminster on Monday and arrested him, charging him with unlawful and indecent assault.

He has been refused bail and is scheduled to appear in the Midland Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
