Bushfire alert for Perth suburb downgraded

A bushfire at Kensington in Perth's south has been contained but is not under control.

A deliberately-lit bushfire in Perth's southern suburbs is no longer threatening lives and homes.

A watch and act alert was issued for parts of Kensington in the City of South Perth early on Monday afternoon but has since been downgraded to an advice status after the fire was contained.

It is stationary but not under control.

The West Australian Education Department said 45 students and about 40 staff were evacuated from Kensington Secondary School.

The fire has burnt through about six hectares of bushland.
