A bushfire burning uncontrolled on South Australia's Yorke Peninsula has destroyed 280 hectares of stubble and remains a threat to people and property in the area.
The Country Fire Service on Monday afternoon issued a watch and act message for the blaze burning north of Bute.
The fire jumped containment lines due to strong winds with crews still working to control the fire, the CFS said on Monday night.
The blaze is now 12km south of Port Broughton near Wokurna with warnings now in place for Wokurna Road and Aeroplane Road and is moving north towards Garfield Road.
Crews in the form of Strike Teams are responding from the surrounding areas.
SA Police are supporting the response.
The CFS says the blaze continues to burn well with flame heights up to three metres.
A wind shift is moving through the area and could suddenly change the direction of the fire.
The fire comes as SA sweltered through the first of at least three days of extreme conditions with temperatures in some regional centres pushing into the mid-40s.
