An uncontrolled bushfire is burning towards two small townships in South Australia's southern Flinders Ranges.

The Country Fire Service has issued a watch and act alert for the out-of-control blaze that's headed towards the towns of Napperby and Nelshaby.

The CFS says the "Bangor fire" is burning in a southwesterly direction near Napperby Block, Wirrabara Forest and the Telowie Gorge near Blight Road, Telowie Road and Scenic Drive.

Firefighters are currently battling the blaze.

"The fire is not controlled and is burning in stubble and conditions are continually changing," the CFS warns on its website.

Motorists are being advised not to enter the area.
