Bushfire out of control near Ballarat

An out-of-control bushfire is burning south of Ballarat and nearby residents have been told to leave their homes.

A watch and act alert is in place for Dereel, Mount Mercer and Grenville.

About 50 emergency vehicles are working on the blaze, which slowed down when the wind changed.
