Lives and homes are no longer in danger from a bushfire in Western Australia's South West region.

A watch and act alert has been downgraded to an advice for people near Commonage Road, Genoli Road and surrounding areas, south of Dunsborough.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services says the blaze is contained and stationary, but not under control.

"There is no threat to lives or homes, but there is lot of smoke in the area," DFES said.

The fire was reported just before 11am on Friday, but the cause is unknown.
