Bushfire threat in WA's south

An emergency bushfire warning issued in WA's south has been downgraded to an advice, but another blaze is still serious and listed as a watch and act alert.

A bushfire that was threatening lives and homes in Western Australia's south has been brought under control, but a separate blaze is still posing a risk.

An emergency warning that had been issued for the southern part of Hay in the Shire of Denmark has been reduced to an advice after firefighters contained the stationary blaze.

It has burnt five hectares and the cause is unknown, the Department of Fire and Emergency Services said on Monday.

Some roads remain closed due to smoke.

Meanwhile, a watch and act alert remains in place for parts of Boyatup, Howick, Beaumont, and Cape Arid in the Shire of Esperance.

Firefighters are working to strengthen containment lines around the out-of-control blaze, with hot weather forecast for the next few days.

The lightning-sparked fire began on Sunday and has burnt 1800 hectares.

Some roads have been closed, as well as Thomas River Campsite in Cape Arid.
