Bushfire threat to Qld towns eases

A bushfire that was headed for two Queensland communities near the NSW border has eased, prompting authorities to downgrade their warning for residents.

An emergency bushfire warning has been downgraded after residents were told to evacuate two small Queensland communities near the NSW border.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services previously urged residents in the towns of Wallangarra and Eukey to leave their homes, however the warning was downgraded on Saturday evening.

Due to the easing conditions, firefighters have been able to make some progress in their battle against the blaze, a QFES spokeswoman said.

Residents have been asked to keep themselves informed on the fire.

Previously the bushfire was heading in a northwesterly direction through Girraween National Park.
