Lives and homes are in danger from an out-of-control bushfire sparked by lightning in Western Australia's south.

An emergency warning has been issued for Howick, Boyatup and Cape Arid in the Shire of Esperance.

Meanwhile, a Watch and Act alert remains in place for parts of neighbouring Beaumont and Cape Le Grand National Park.

Bushfires have been burning in the area since Sunday and have burnt about 18,200 hectares.

Some roads, campsites, national parks and Condingup Primary School are closed.

A temporary evacuation centre has been set up at the Esperance Civic Centre.
