Bushfires close to Labor MP's home

Federal member for Wakefield, Nick Champion, is away from parliament because of fears bushfires raging in South Australia could hit his home.

Federal Labor MP Nick Champion has taken leave from parliament as bushfires rage close to his South Australian home.

Mr Champion's colleague Tony Burke informed the lower house on Thursday of the backbencher's absence.

"The fires raging in the north of Adelaide are not only within his community but at different points have come quite close to his home," Mr Burke said.
