Three businesses have been damaged by fire in Auburn in Sydney's west.

A butcher shop, web design business and DVD rental store were well alight when crews were called to extinguish the blaze at 84 Auburn Road late on Saturday night, a NSW Police spokeswoman said.

She would not comment on reports that the property belonged to the sister of controversial Auburn deputy mayor Salim Mehajer.

Fairfax Media reports that Khadijeh Mehajer, who is Salim's younger sister, suffered approximately $100,000 worth of damage to her property at 84 Auburn Road.

Nobody was inside the premises at the time.

NSW Police said they could not comment on who owned the property, because they were a victim of crime.

The deputy mayor rose to local fame following his extravagant wedding that shut down streets in Auburn in August.
