Byron Bay bushfire under control: RFS

A bushfire in NSW's Byron Bay region has been brought under control after the winds died down, sparing properties in the area.

A bushfire on NSW's north coast that threatened a number of homes has been brought under control, the Rural Fire Service (RFS) says.

The RFS says the blaze near the corner of Byron Bay Road and Bundaleer Road in the Lennox Head area was brought under control about midnight on Sunday.

The fire had covered about 100 hectares of bush and threatened 12 properties in the area.

Thirty firefighters battled the blaze.

"It all quieted down around midnight last night when southerly winds died down," an RFS spokesman told AAP on Monday.

"There remains no threat to property."
