Cairns council hit by data breach

Cairns Regional Council has confirmed two of its online surveys were impacted by data security breaches.

Nearly 300 Cairns residents may have had their personal data breached after the Cairns Regional Council says two of its online surveys were hacked.

Council chief executive officer John Andrejic on Wednesday said an online data breach affecting Typeform survey tools struck two of its surveys earlier this year.

Mr Andrejic said Typeform has confirmed the source of the breach has been addressed and all data collected since May 3 is secure.

He said the 274 people who were affected have all been notified after they provided personal data such as names, email addresses, phone numbers, age bracket, gender and nationality.

"It's important to note that the surveys impacted by this breach did not collect identifying data such as date of birth," Mr Andrejic said.
