Cairns suburbs being sprayed for Zika

Queensland health officials are waiting on test results to confirm whether a Cairns resident has picked up the Zika virus while in the Caribbean.

An inner-city Cairns suburb is undergoing preventative mosquito spraying after Queensland Health reported a suspected 14th case of the Zika virus in the state.

Health officials say they are waiting on test results to confirm whether a resident picked up the mosquito-borne virus while overseas in the Caribbean.

Authorities are spraying Parramatta Park in Cairns on Wednesday, just two days after they said they would target backpacker hostels following a confirmed case of Zika to a Bowen resident who had returned from Tonga.
