The Australian Greens have called for an overhaul of the laws covering political donations, claiming corporate donors are exerting too much influence over the major parties.
The call comes after the Australian Electoral Commission released new figures on donations covering the 2012-13 financial year.
Over that time period, the Australian Labor Party received $54.8 million, the Liberals received $73.1 million while the Nationals and the Greens received just over $8 million each.
Greens Senator Lee Rhiannon has told Michael Kenny she believes the current laws are fundamentally flawed and lack basic fairness and transparency.
