The federal government has given $1 million dollars for 15 new projects targeting an end to female genital mutilation, or FGM.

The Melbourne-based Multicultural Centre for Women's Health has developed one of the projects, with an aim of providing an educational website and support system for females to help eliminate the procedure.

Dr Adele Murdolo is the Executive Director of the Centre.

She spoke to Zara Zaher about the project and how long-term efforts are the key to eradicating the practice of FGM.
