Australian musician Kirin J Callinan will be heading to court after he lifted his kilt and flashed photographers on the ARIA red carpet.

The 31-year-old singer in late November was egged on to lift his kilt and when he did, everyone, including photographers and video operators, copped an eyeful at Star Casino in Sydney.

He has subsequently been charged with wilful and obscene exposure near a public place.

He was issued with a court attendance notice on December 8 and is due to face Downing Centre Local Court on February 21.

Neil Finn defended Callinan on Twitter on February 2 after it was revealed he'd been dumped from the Laneway Festival because of the ARIA incident.

Finn posted a video of the flashing and then supported the 31-year-old in subsequent tweets.
