What Charlie Cameron has brought to the Brisbane Lions extends beyond the field, even if the electrifying talent insists he's not a natural leader.

The former Adelaide Crow has put bums on seats at the Gabba this year thanks to his speed, defensive pressure and penchant for producing moments of magic.

But it has been the 23-year-old's willingness to speak up in meetings and assume a leadership role that has most surprised his teammates.

"His speed, it's just blistering and he puts so much pressure on, even if he's not getting the ball ... it's just through the roof," Allen Christensen said.

"But it (his chat) was something I didn't expect out of him; he's quite harsh on himself and will speak up to other boys if he sees it going against the game plan.

"He's always the first to give some praise as well ... sometimes he doesn't shut up."

Cameron admitted his approach to football had changed since becoming a Lion, but that his on-field goals would always be the same.

"I just try and go out there and have fun and put on a show for everyone," he said.

"But it's a different role at the moment with a forward line so young, trying to help them out and make them better.

"I've had the experience with the older players at the Adelaide Crows that have helped me, so I'm trying to do that now too."

Despite his positive impact Cameron remains bashful about his leadership credentials though.

"I guess I know a bit about footy but I'd like to be more influential (through his actions) instead of lead, I'm not really a natural leader," he said.

Cameron flew high in the early stages of the side's breakthrough win against Hawthorn a fortnight ago to claim a mark of the year contender.

The Mornington Island product says there has been plenty better taken this season, but sees Sunday's date with North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium as a chance to raise the bar.
