Melbourne Storm and Queensland five-eighth Cameron Munster has ended speculation about his future in the NRL by re-signing with the Storm until the end of 2023.
The Storm confirmed Munster, 24, has signed a new four-year deal on Wednesday, making the announcement on the club's Twitter feed.
Musnter had the potential to be one of the competition's most coveted free agents when his previous deal expired at the end of next season.
Instead he has committed to staying at Melbourne after reportedly fending off interest from rival clubs.
"To be completely honest, I was never going to go," Munster told News Corp Australia.
"It's the first club that gave me the opportunity to play football so I knew I needed to repay them."
He said the Storm's long-term retention of coach Craig Bellamy, who had also been sought-after, influenced his decision to remain in Melbourne.
"He's done a lot for me and a lot for this club and the least I could do was repay the favour for what he's done for me," Munster said.
Munster, who moved to Melbourne from Rockhampton in 2013, has made 89 appearances for the club.
Storm officials can now focus on negotiations with captain and hooker Cameron Smith, who is seeking a new two-year contract.
