Cameron says Lions have built more belief

Exciting Brisbane small forward Charlie Cameron says the Lions' unbeaten start to the AFL season has been built on last year's disappointment.

For the first time since 2010, the Lions have won their opening two rounds - on Sunday adding North Melbourne's scalp to the upset victory over defending champions West Coast.

Cameron was integral to the 20-point win against the Kangaroos, booting four goals including two in the final term.

The 24-year-old admitted that it was a match the Lions probably would have lost last season, but felt they were now a more mature and resilient group.

Last season Brisbane were 1-7 in games decided by three goals or fewer.

"Those games last year helped us go into this year with a bit of resilience," Cameron said on Monday.

"We just had to keep it simple and not try to do too much - just try to play a selfless game in the last quarter and we knew that we could run over North Melbourne.

"We had confidence and knew that if we played our role and kept taking those steps we'd win the game."

The ex-Crow said it was important for the Lions to back up their big round one win and try to build some consistency.

"We knew North Melbourne would come out firing after their loss against Fremantle so we had to try to back up the way we played last week," he said.

Cameron was the Lions' leading goal-kicker last season, which was his first at the club, until his season was brought to a premature halt after 11 games due to a Lisfranc foot injury.

He said it was frustrating to not be able to contribute, with the Lions finishing a lowly 15th.

With seven goals from two rounds Cameron has already been talked up as an All Australian contender, however he was happy to turn the attention on to Lachie Neale, who joined Brisbane from Fremantle this season.

Star midfielder Neale finished the game with 43 disposals, including 11 in the final quarter as well as four centre clearances in a commanding performance.

"He's been a great recruit for us this year," Cameron said.

"We've enjoyed his role in the midfield and he's started the year off well and is an exciting player."
